Fellowships to USA and Canada mid-career scholars, writers, artists, and scientists to support projects in various fields. Funding is intended for professionals with a significant record of publication, exhibition, or performance who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.
The Foundation prides itself on supporting individuals, not institutions or organizations.
The competition is open only to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. All applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada at the time of application.
If you are not a native-born citizen of the U.S. or Canada, you must provide your permanent residency or naturalization information in the “Citizenship Note” field.
Ineligible
Group projects will not be considered.
Second Fellowships are not granted.
Guggenheim Fellowships are not open to students (undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate).
Awards are not available to support the writing of literature for children or young readers, or support any other type of work (e.g., films, plays, etc.) intended for young audiences.

The application deadline is 11:59 pm EDT, Thursday, September 21, 2023.
After your application is submitted, you may also receive an email at a later date with further instructions about when to submit examples of your work. Please do not send work examples until you are asked.
Timeline:
- Mid-August: Competition application portal opens
- Mid-September: Deadline to submit applications
- Mid-November: References contacted for recommendations
- Mid-December: Work example submission deadline
- Mid-April: Notification of competition results sent to all applicants via email
