Grant Description

Award of $5,000 to a USA or Canada public health official or department to recognize exceptional achievements in the advancement of recreational water safety. The award recipient will be honored for outstanding work in public health and in the safe use of water in spas, waterparks, and pools through educational, technical, safety, and operational programs.

Candidates shall provide a complete and thorough description of a plan or program currently in development or beginning as early as October 2023. The object of said plan or program can be, for example, to improve the safety and/or wellness of bathers through classes or pamphlets, or the safety of an aquatic facility by increasing educational signage.

Additional Eligibility Criteria

Eligible candidates:
- Candidates for the Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant shall be a state or local public health official or a public health department. Individuals will be employed by a state or local public health department.
- Candidates will be citizens of the U.S. or Canada (or if organization, headquartered in U.S. or Canada).
- Candidates may be self-nominated or nominated by a third party.

Nominations are accepted from PHTA members, a public health official, or a public health department.

Pre-Application Information

Nomination Deadline Extended! Nominations form due Friday, September 22.
Nominations must be received by 5:00 p.m. (EDT).

Winners will be selected by Friday, September 29, 2023.

The winner, or a representative on behalf of the winner, is expected to receive the Dr. R. Neil Lowry Grant award at the International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo (PSP/Deck Expo) in November 2023.

Number of Grants

One grant will be awarded.

Estimated Size of Grant

One grant, in the amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000), in United States currency, will be awarded as seed funding.

Term of Contract

Candidates shall provide a complete and thorough description of a plan or program currently in development or beginning as early as October 2023.
